Bridge of Lubbock kicks off Concert for a Cause
|
Harmonious music resounded from the Southcrest Baptist Church. Family Life Radio's Concert for a Cause used inspiring melodies to raise awareness for the Bridge of Lubbock, a Christian non-profit organization that serves families in need in East Lubbock. Mayda Muniz is the organization's executive director.
"That's what we do at The Bridge, we want to restore the foundation of hope," Muniz said. Bridge 2 Success is one of their major programs, where volunteers mentor at-risk youth. Gary Scoggins founded The Bridge of Lubbock. "We're reaching them spiritually, mentally, and educationally," Scoggins said. The organization needs volunteers to make their outreach possible. Todd Agnew, a Christian musician, traveled from Austin to be the concert's featured artist. "I really have always loved seeing the light come on in someone's eyes. When they've kind of lived their life in a certain way and suddenly they see things differently," Agnew said. Agnew hopes his music can bring a positive message to the at-risk youth that The Bridge serves. "Maybe I could make a difference, maybe I'm supposed to be involved, maybe God has something special for me," Agnew said. The concert came at a time when The Bridge of Lubbock needs volunteers the most, during the holidays. "We are really just excited that we have this opportunity on a grand scale to let people know what we're doing and how they can get involved to help us volunteer," Muniz said.
