B2S Dream Lab
On April 23, 2010, The Greater Southwest Rotary Club of Lubbock hosted a Shrimp Boil to benefit The Bridge of Lubbock. $10,000 was subsequently donated to remodel our make-shift computer lab into a Dream Lab. Venture Communications agreed to donate 10 new computers and the Diekemper Family Foundation provided additional funding for electrical work. On July 17, 2010, we unveiled our Dream Lab with a Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting.
In November, 2010 The United Ways of Texas approved a Satellite Go-Center Grant which provided for the addition of Microsoft Office and other technology support to make the Dream Lab more effective. Today students have access to the Dream Lab on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. GO CENTER NIGHT: February 22, 2011During Our 2nd Annual Go Center Night, eight different post secondary options participated in our information fair, including Texas Tech, Kaplan College, and South Plains College. Pegasus, a first generation student program at Texas Tech also took time out to visit with our students. B2S students and their parents had a chance to ask questions about college and get an in depth look at all resources that are available to them. Our program closed with Bianca Ibarra and Ashlei Watson, current college students, sharing their personal stories about how they were led to pursue a college education and the resources they found to stay on track.
READY...SET...GOALS - February 10, 2011Thursdays are Go Center Days! It is a time dedicated to helping the students further their vision for their future by working closely with their mentor and utilizing our Go Center Dream Lab. Setting large and small goals is the first step, next they uncover roadblocks to the successful completion of those goals and create a road map to success.
