Introducing The Bridge....
|
The Bridge of Lubbock was conceptualized on paper in 1997 when Founder, Gary Scoggins was disappointed with the sentiment that he was receiving from the community when attempting to offer outreach to families in East Lubbock. The document would sit in a file drawer until 1999 when he asked a church member to do him a favor by completing documents to incorporate his idea.
When Posey Elementary School was closed an opportunity was at hand to allow The Bridge to come alive by utilizing the vacant building in the fall of 2001. Cathedral of Praise Church was the first affiliate. |
How are we funded? The Bridge of Lubbock is funded by grants and private donations from individuals, businesses and churches in the greater Lubbock area. The Bridge of Lubbock does not receive funding from the federal government or the United Way. |

In 2002, The R.O.K. (Reaching Our Kids) after school program for elementary students and The South Plains Food Bank Kids Cafe joined the affiliate family. The Bridge was established as a 501(c)(3) in 2003 and began offering a free hot lunch to the homeless in the area on Mondays. Volunteers came from across the city to help us meet this need. By the summer of 2004, the program had expanded to Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. A free clothing closet soon followed.
Bridge 2 Success, our core strategy today, launched in February 2005 with the goal of helping students like Devonte, age 13, whose parents were in prison, to create a vision for their future that was different from their current surroundings. In 2006, Seasoned with Love Catering by The Bridge of Lubbock was created to generate a revenue stream for the outreach programs offered by the The Bridge while also providing jobs to local men and women in the process of rebuilding their lives. Additionally, The Lubbock Children's Health Clinic and Junior League's Food 2 Kids program were added as affiliates. |
A Bridge 2 Hope is a servant-hearted person or organization that feels connected to our mission and makes a monthly gift to The Bridge of Lubbock. A Bridge 2 Hope helps us to help others to trust in God's plan for them.

The building was donated to the The Bridge in 2008 by a generous donor who had purchased it a few years prior and The Eddie Richardson Head Start opened its doors as an affiliate.
Project: Prom was introduced in 2011 to provide dresses to young ladies who are unable to afford their own. The 100 Black Men of West Texas, Inc and Christian Women's Job Corp of Lubbock established offices at The Bridge as affilates. In the fall, The Bridge formed a collaborative effort between The R.O.K. and Bridge 2 Success to create a cohesive curriculum for the youth that we serve. |
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 NIV |
“The mission of the Bridge of Lubbock is three-fold. First, we help restore the foundation of hope, soul, and spirit to our community through our outreach. Secondly, we bring community agencies and ministries together under one roof. We offer a home in our building to those who share a similar vision of reaching out to those in need. Finally, we promote the sharing of resources to meet the needs of those we serve more efficiently. An example of this is our willingness to open our doors and host community events and programs that benefit the community.”
